Do not use off all of the gas from a cylinder. Presence of a residue is regulated by the requirements for safe operation (Rules for the design and safe operation of pressure vessels (ПБ 03-576-03)). Empty cylinders are stored with safety caps or refilled. Cylinders can undergo this procedure if their residual pressure is at least 0.05 MPa, and in acetylene cylinders from 0.05 to 0.1 MPa.
There are two methods to check how much gas there is in the cylinder: weigh it or measure with a special instrument, the pressure gauge. In the first case, check the labeling on the bottom before filling. It contains manufacturer plant data, date of the latest re-qualification, manufacture date, rated volume, dimensions, operating pressure and empty vessel weight. Then we measure the cylinder weight with the remaining residue of the substance and calculate the difference.
The second way is to check the level of pressurized gas in the cylinder with the help of the pressure gauge.
Defective cylinders are not accepted for refill. What does it mean? If there is a number of defects on the cylinder body (corrosion, defective valves), or if the vessel's label is illegible, or there is no label record at all. Also, the cylinder will be rejected from refill, if:
- it has not been re-qualified in the specified time;
- outdated porous mass check deadline;
- valves are faulty;
- no proper painting or inscriptions;
- no gas overpressure;
- applied marks are missing.
Yes, BK Group offers gas cylinder requalification. Gas storage and transportation cylinders must be verified and requalified every five years. Cylinder operability verification includes:
Visual inspection to check for damage and deformations, check for labeling and color compliance (according to GOST)
- Checking records in the cylinder label
- Pressure hydraulic testing of the cylinder to check for leaks
- Final weighing of the container to check the wall metal thickness
If the actual condition of the cylinder recorded in the examination process meets certain requirements, a stamp is applied to the surface of the cylinder with the test date and the next qualification date, which should be in 5 years from the current test. Also, a stamp of an authorized official gas cylinder verification organization from the relevant List of Organizations, is applied.:
Each cylinder has a special mark with numbers. The mark has data of the manufacturer, time of the last attestation, production date, rated volume, dimensions, operating pressure, weight of the empty cylinder. If the cylinder has already been re-qualified, then there should be a mark from the organization that performed this operation.
Except the standard data, the cylinder surface may also include individual unique data. For example, the mass is indicated in kilograms, the capacity is in liters, and the operating and the verification pressure in the standard atmospheres.
Cylinder bundle is a group of several gas cylinders in one frame with one header. They are designed for transportation, storage and distribution of large quantities of gases. Bundles are recommended for production sites with high gas consumption rate.
- Machinery production;
- Vessel building;
- Installation of metal structures;
- Welding operationsы
The main advantage of the cylinder bundles as that they are assembled as a single cylinder. This allows companies to save human resources, and increase the quality of work, as there is no need to be distracted for the cylinder replacement
Gas cylinders, regardless of the type of transport, should first of all be safe: please observe all safety measures. These are the rules applicable to the transportation of most gases:
- Avoid impact
- Avoid overheating and keeping near fire
- Do not transport gas cylinders together with food items, flammable and explosive substances, and in the passenger compartment of a light motor vehicle
- Avoid leaks
Full list of gas transportation rules may be found here:
Gas cylinders should be stored observing all the precautions, both at the special warehouses and outside. If the cylinders are not placed in a room, they should be protected from precipitations and sunlight. Also, avoid mechanical impact during storage. Protect gas cylinders from overheating and check for leaks. Also, do not store oxygen cylinders together with flammable gas cylinders.
The gas purity means a parameter which specifies the number of foreign impurities in a substance, in this case, in gas. The higher this parameter, the higher is the quality of the substance. The degree of purity is measured in per cent. The number corresponds to the minimum guaranteed purity, or the complete number of foreign impurities found during the gas analysis..
BK Group does prepare cylinders for filling with pure gas. This process includes several steps.:
- Cylinder inspection. Specialists assess the technical condition of the cylinder, presence or absence of defects, accreditation validity.
- Shutoff valve checkup
- Temperature-vacuum desorption. This is a process taking place in a special unit, which is used to prepare the gas cylinders for subsequent filling.
The insulated cabinet has a heating and thermal regulation system including electric heater, fans and temperature transmitters. The heating system raises the temperature inside the cabinet to 90°С in 10 minutes.
The unit is fitted with a suction and filling system for the cylinders. The suction system includes a fore vacuum pump, pipeline valves, shutoff devices, pressure measurement devices. The unit is also fitted with the line valves to fill the processed cylinder with the source gas from the cylinder outside the insulated cabinet. A bleeding-in atmosphere air system is also provided.
Automatic and manual operation mode.
The unit cleans the internal surface of harmful impurities by heating and vacuuming the cylinders. After the cylinders pass this type of treatment before refilling, the effect of adsorption and desorption processes decreases greatly, and the gas purity degree raises.
The unit may be used at gas-filling stations, production sites, at research laboratories and other sites where high-purity gases are required.
