Helium is the most frequently occurring element after hydrogen in the Universe. Nevertheless, pure helium is found rather rarely on Earth. Its main deposits are located in the USA, China, Russia and Algeria. Therefore, these countries are leading in the industrial production of this gas.
Helium is obtained artificially by deep cooling (to -190°С) from helium-containing gases. This technology takes advantage of the specific property of helium, its lower compressibility compared to other gases. The main components are condensed, and the remaining concentrate is purified from hydrogen and neon impurities.
- Lighter than air
- Colorless and odorless
- Belongs to inert gases
- Has higher thermal conductivity than other gases (except hydrogen)
- Poorly soluble in water compared to other gases
- Low-hazard substance in terms of impact on the body
- Can cause suffocation
- Cylinders may explode when heated.
Helium, a high-purity gas, possesses unique properties that are essential in modern industries. This includes its complete inertness (protective environment during metal welding, production of ultrapure and semiconductor materials, chromatography), high thermal and electrical conductivity. For this reason, pure helium is often used in various fields: from aviation and nuclear industries to medicine and food production.
For example, helium is used to make breathing mixtures (since it is non-toxic), it is added to scuba diving tanks and airships. Liquefied helium is used as a cooling agent in scientific research.
Helium is lighter than air, so it is used as a filler for balloons. They are used both for decoration and scientific purposes. For example, meteorologists use helium balloons to lift measuring instruments to the required height.
Helium is transported in steel cylinders and special containers using all types of transport, following safety regulations. Cylinders with liquid helium should only be stored in an upright position.
Purchasing pure helium in cylinders, suitable for most technological processes, is not difficult. You can place an order by contacting BC Group specialists by phone +7 (495) 118-41-95.
