• Toxic liquefied gas of yellowish-green color with an irritating odor
• Heavier than air
• Very strong oxidizer.

• Chlorine is used in the chemical industry for the production of synthetic rubber, polyvinyl chloride, plastics, and various other compounds (hydrochloric acid, bleaching powder, various poisons);
• In semiconductor manufacturing;
• As an independent chemical warfare agent, as well as a component of toxic gases (mustard gas, phosgene).
• Used in the production of medicines.
• In metallurgy for the production of pure metals (titanium, tin, niobium, tantalum).

Cylinders must be transported in a horizontal position with padding between cylinders or in a vertical position with mandatory protection against possible falling. Transportation in packaged form in special containers is permitted.

Joint transportation with oxygen cylinders is not allowed.

Movement/transportation must comply with the codes of the respective type of transport, federal laws, other regulatory acts, and the legislation of the country where the movement/transportation/handling takes place.
