Methane, or as it is otherwise called, swamp gas, is chemically the simplest hydrocarbon. Its formula is CH4. This gas is the basis of natural, associated oil, mine and swamp gases. Methane is a natural gas, but it can be produced artificially. This happens in several ways:
- methane is released during the extraction of oil and gas and coal-tar raw materials;
- in laboratory conditions, methane is obtained using the process of hydrolysis of aluminum carbide, as well as alkaline melting of sodium acetate.
- colorless gas
- odorless
- lighter than air
- burns in air with a blue flame
- explosive
- non-toxic
- and not hazardous to humans
- resistant to chemical influences
- poorly soluble in water
Methane exists not only in its natural form but also artificially. It can be produced in a laboratory. The gas is released when heated, as well as when other substances melt. Dry sodium hydroxide with acetic acid and acetate with sodium hydroxide, respectively.
Pure methane is used:
- in CVD technology for crystal growth
- as a combustible gas in photometry
Hazard class 2, subclass 2.1. It includes flammable gases. The transportation of methane is allowed by various types of transport - road, rail, or water.
BC Group supplies methane in cylinders with purity ranging from 4.0 (99.99%) to 6.5 (99.99995%) in 50L cylinders with a filling pressure of 200 bar. Some quantity of pure propane is always available in stock, and depending on the required purity, the delivery time will not exceed 8 weeks.
Can be transported by
- train
- truck
- ship
