Silicon tetrafluoride (SiF4, tetrafluorosilanee) is a binary inorganic substance obtained by the synthesis of silicon and fluorine.
- toxic gas
- colorless with a sharp odor
- heavier than air
- easily reacts with water
- dissolves in organic solvents
- thermally stable
- in solid form transforms into crystals
- in the process of producing hydrofluorosilicic acid;
- during cleaning and etching of silicon;
- as a source of silicon in the production of optical fiber;
- for hydrofluorination;
- in organic synthesis;
- as an analogue of refrigerants (freons) in cooling systems;
- for the production of synthetic cryolite and aluminum fluoride.
ADR Class 2TC. Transportation by road, rail, and water is permitted, following all precautions. The substance is prohibited from being transported with food and animal feed. The gas must be protected from fire exposure. Store in well-ventilated areas.
